Getting a job after graduation is no easy task; it can be a long and mentally draining process. Seniors nationwide are preparing to enter the workforce and have begun the job application process.
Ohio Wesleyan University offers seniors help finding a job in a wide range of career fields.
Given the various majors, catering to students' needs can be challenging. Carolyn Lammert, who is part of Career Connection, discussed the resources that the university offers to students pursuing jobs after graduation.
“Career Connection at OWU offers several programs as well as one-on-one assistance for seniors seeking jobs after graduation. Last year, we also added a Virtual Career Center with easy-to-find resources to help students which includes career-related news, advice, opportunities, and more.”
Senior Malik Sillah said he uses the resource Handshake, another version of LinkedIn to connect to recruiters for job opportunities as well as family connections.
“I used Handshake my sophomore year for the online sources, but the process was hard to get a job, so I asked my parents if we had family or friends who could help me with an internship or job offer.”
Many students also have difficulty figuring out what connections to make and how to get their foot in the door. It can be hard to reach out to people you don’t know for help. Anthony Fresolone commented that OWU alums can be helpful.
“I reached out to an OWU alum and talked with him. He put me in contact with the regional manager of his office, who put me in contact with the manager of my office. I talked with my manager and regional recruiter and did a total of 3 interviews (all over Zoom) before getting offered a full-time position.“
As it becomes crunch time for seniors here at OWU to secure a job, our university provides many helpful resources to give you the best chance possible to secure an offer.
