Family and Homecoming Weekend- Events to Look Out For

Ohio Wesleyan University is preparing for an exciting Family and Homecoming weekend October 4-5 with plenty of activities to enjoy.

The weekend is packed with exciting events, with more available for those who register. Among the scheduled activities are a golf outing with the team from noon to 6 p.m. at Millcreek Golf Club, "Pints with Professors," where select faculty members will be available to meet from 5 to 6:15 p.m. at the Mowry Alumni Center, a 7 p.m. performance of Helen by the performing arts department at Studio Theater, and an 8 p.m. stargazing session at Perkins Observatory.

If the deadline is over, do not worry, lots of activities do not require any registration. With any downtime from activities, tour campus and show off your dorm room.

Schimmel Conrades Science Center is hosting two activities. From 10 to 11:30 a.m., the STEM microscope will be showcased. From 2 to 4 p.m., there is an open house at the Edwin Moore Greenhouse. Later, the men's soccer team will face off against Wittenberg at Roy Rike field. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and a tailgate will start at 6 p.m.

Delaware’s First Friday event is on Friday too. Sandusky Street will be packed with local vendors, food, entertainment, and other family fun activities from 6 to 9 p.m. First Friday is a great way to introduce family to the culture of Delaware while supporting local and small businesses.

Saturday holds the weekend’s main event, the football game. At noon, the Parade of Bishops will happen at the JAYwalk, leading to the start of the tailgate in the Selby Stadium Parking lot. Sounds of laughter and excitement will clash with music while the smells of various delicious foods will fill the air.

The tailgate will surely serve as a highlight of the weekend thanks to the food trucks, activities, and community.

The fun doesn’t end here, though, because the celebration and camaraderie will soon after transition into excitement as Selby Stadium fills to the brim with fans cheering for the Bishops as they play DePauw.

Connor Asbury, a second-year student-athlete, says the homecoming game crowd makes a difference for the players.

“There is way more noise and support for the team. We feed off the energy the crowd brings,” said Asbury.

Asbury recommends eating at The Hamburger Inn to close out Family Weekend because it is good local food after a good local game.

His message to all,

“Come out and support, it should be a good game,” said Asbury.
