As the school year begins, so does the beginning of the end for the class of 2025. Just four years ago they were graduating in 2021 after a year that was anything but ordinary. Now once again, they have hit the final stage before a new chapter opens up.
Every year OWU hosts a reception for the senior class at the beginning of the fall semester. This year, on August 21st, the senior reception was held at the back of Bradford Milligan Hall. This reception is to toast the seniors into their final year of college.
This gathering is bittersweet, allowing students to catch up after a long summer, discuss plans for the rest of this semester, and enjoy each other’s presence. Senior year can be a surreal thing and this gathering allows them all to take a minute to enjoy it and celebrate the final stretch of college, as well as kick off their final year on a positive note.

The event began at 6:00 PM, with all of the seniors gathered around in the backyard of the senior apartments. Wristbands were handed out and IDs were checked to make sure those over 21 were allowed to have the champagne offered for the toast. Those not yet 21 had other beverages to choose from. There was also an assortment of snacks for the seniors along with grabbing their class of 2025 shirts as they awaited OWU’s president, Matt VandenBerg, to arrive about halfway through the reception.
President Matt VandenBerg had a lot to say about what this year is going to bring and the uniqueness of the class of 25’. He emphasized one of the most important parts of the college experience, the friends that you make along the way.
He ended his speech with one final quote to the senior class.
“There are good ships and wood chips, ships that sail the sea, but the best ships are friendships, may they always be,” said VandenBerg.
With a raise of the glass, the class of 2025 toasted to this as they began their final year at Ohio Wesleyan.
